Black and White Madhubani Painting of Shiva from India, ‘The Powerful Lord Shiva’

In black and white, the Hindu god Shiva is depicted against a field of leaves with an impressive level of detail. Using ink on handmade paper, Indian artist Bharti Dayal works in the time-honored tradition of Madhubani paintings, developed in the Mithila region. A snake coils around the deitys neck while the Ganges river flows magnificently from his hair.
