Mother and Daughter Madhubani Painting on Paper from India, ‘Motherly Bonds’

The close bond between mother and daughter is portrayed in abstract form in this outstanding folk painting by Indian artist Bharti Dayal. Both mother and daughter have abstract features and are dressed in traditional and richly adorned Hindu attire and jewelry. The child feels protected by her mother and believes that with her she is safe from all the dangers of the world. The multicolored painting in Madhubani style is created with acrylic paint and vegetable dyes applied with brushes, sharpened reeds and pen nibs on handmade paper.
